Extracting archives

What's the archive password?

offcoa.st — lowercase, no https://, no trailing slash.

How do I open a .7z file on Windows?

Install 7-Zip. Right-click the .7z → 7-Zip → Extract Here.

On Windows 11 the 7-Zip menu hides behind Show more options, or press Shift+F10.

How do I open a .7z file on macOS?

Install Keka. Double-click the archive. The Unarchiver works too.

The download came as .7z.001, .7z.002, etc.

Multi-part archive. Put every part in the same folder. Extract the .001. Don't rename them.

"CRC failed" or "Data error" while extracting

Damaged transfer. Re-download from a different mirror. A download manager (JDownloader, IDM) will re-fetch corrupted chunks.

"Cannot create file" while extracting

Windows path limit, or you can't write to that folder. Move the archive to C:\extract\ and try again.

Install & antivirus

Antivirus deletes the download.

False positive. Disable real-time protection, extract, install, re-enable. Add the install folder as a permanent AV exclusion if you want it to stick.

macOS says the download is "damaged."

Gatekeeper false positive. Try:

Right-click the installer → Open → Open anyway.
xattr -cr /path/to/installer.app in Terminal.
sudo spctl --master-disable, install, sudo spctl --master-enable.

Windows installer fails with 0xC0000142.

Missing C++ runtimes. Install abbodi1406's VC Redist AIO, reboot, try the installer again.

If it still fails, move the installer to C:\setup\ (no spaces, no unicode).

Plug-ins & extensions

Where do After Effects plug-ins go?

.aex → AE's Plug-ins folder
.jsx / .jsxbin → AE's Scripts folder
Dockable panels → ScriptUI Panels subfolder

A panel installed but shows up empty.

AE is sandboxing it. Edit → Preferences → Scripting & Expressions → Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network. Restart AE.

Still empty? The license file is in the wrong subfolder. Check the panel's README.

How do I install a .zxp?

aescripts' ZXP installer or Anastasiy's Extension Manager.

Downloads & mirrors

Why multiple mirrors per download?

Hosts throttle, expire, get taken down. Multiple mirrors means at least one works. All point to the same file.

The download is slow.

Try a different mirror.
Use a download manager. JDownloader is free and handles waits and captchas.

A mirror is dead.

Try the others. If all are dead, mail hello@offcoa.st with the link.

Safety

Is this stuff safe to run?

Yes. Everything indexed here comes from reputable sources in the community. Nothing gets a row without being vouched for somewhere upstream.

You'll still see AV warnings. Those are false positives. Scan on VirusTotal for a second opinion if you want one.

Does Off Coast host the files?

No. Every link points to a third-party host. See legal.
